Leaf Boat
This work manifests a leaf that flows in a swift current but which never sinks even under splashing water. The “Leaf Boat” symbolizes Finnish people who have endured their harsh climate and whose historic fate has often been at the mercy of the great powers that surround Finland.
The stones that are arranged around the “Leaf” express the water current, while also delineating words in Finnish and Japanese meaning “Can you hear me?” This question has been posed by nature to human beings, and by our historic predecessors to people today; it is also a question that people from both countries ask each other.
